$50,000 Available for Assessing Point-of-Care Ultrasound Applications
The AIUM’s Endowment for Education and Research (EER) has issued a request for applications (RFA) for studies to assess competency in point-of-care ultrasound applications, defined as ultrasound imaging for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes performed on the patient by a provider in real time as a component of a care episode. The EER has allocated up to $50,000 for 1 or more grants. The submission deadline is March 1, 2012. More detailed information is available on the AIUM website.
Web Education Liaison Needed
The AIUM’s new Web Education Committee is seeking a Web Education Liaison for the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Community. The liaison will coordinate with those with similar interests and with the community’s officers to provide the Web Education Committee with images and video clips for the AIUM’s practice guidelines, suggestions for webinars (including topics and speakers), and information on the online educational needs and preferences of the community’s members.
Future goals for the Web Education Committee with which the liaison might be involved include an online lecture series, a database of interesting/unusual cases, the development of iPad apps, and formatting of AIUM publications into e-books. The sky's the limit!
If you have an interest in web education and would like to be considered for the position of Web Education Liaison for the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Community, e-mail Jenny Clark
This is a great opportunity to get involved in the AIUM and help develop new educational initiatives.
Soliciting Grant Proposals for 2012
The AIUM's Endowment for Education and Research (EER) is accepting grant proposals through November 1, 2011.
Ultrasound researchers may apply for grants of up to $10,000 in teaching, clinical research, or basic science.
A list of all previously awarded grants, detailed criteria, and an application form are available on the AIUM website.
Nominations for community secretary for the Cardiovascular Ultrasound Community are being accepted through September 15, 2011.
To nominate a candidate (you may nominate yourself), email Janet Campbell (jcampbell@aium.org) the nominee's name, e-mail address, and community name. Copy (cc) the nominee as proof of the nominee's interest in serving. The nominee, who must be an AIUM member, should submit a brief biographical sketch (100-word maximum) to be included on the ballot.
Nominees should be willing to make a 6-year commitment as they will serve a progressively upward role: 2 years as secretary, 2 years as vice chair, and 2 years as chair. The term of office will begin the day after the close of the 2012 AIUM Annual Convention. Each community leadership team plays a major role in the AIUM’s educational efforts, including, but not limited to, choosing topics for special interest courses, identifying speakers, assigning abstract review teams, designating moderators, and coordinating with the Web Education Committee.
