$50,000 Available for Assessing Point-of-Care Ultrasound Applications

The AIUM’s Endowment for Education and Research (EER) has issued a request for applications (RFA) for studies to assess competency in point-of-care ultrasound applications, defined as ultrasound imaging for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes performed on the patient by a provider in real time as a component of a care episode. The EER has allocated up to $50,000 for 1 or more grants. The submission deadline is March 1, 2012. More detailed information is available on the AIUM website.

Soliciting Grant Proposals for 2012 

 

The AIUM's Endowment for Education and Research (EER) is accepting grant proposals through November 1, 2011.

 

Ultrasound researchers may apply for grants of up to $10,000 in teaching, clinical research, or basic science.

 

A list of all previously awarded grants, detailed criteria, and an application form are available on the AIUM website.

Thanks to Dr. Miller for asking about this. As Erin indicates, the description has been modified and was based on a discussion I had with Len Greenbaum. The original wording was taken from a Sound Waves article but had to be edited to fit the character limit here. However, Dr. Abramowicz is likely correct in his suggestion about the reasoning for the "legal" term. As we all know there are implications associated with off-label use and any promotion there of. This is a likely origin for such wording. However, we think the revised wording reflects the interest of the community involved here. Thanks to you both for your dialogue on this.

I suspect "illegal" contrast refers to non-FDA approved. That would make the contrast agent "illegal" in the USA, although this is obviously not the correct term.
