I would like to inquire to the use of STIC technology in capturing heart views at other facilities. Currently, we aquire the traditional static heart views recommended by ARDMS. Our facility is in the process of incorporating STIC volumes for evaluating fetal heart anomalies. I am interested in knowing if there are any facilities that soley utilize STIC volumes in replacement of the traditional static heart views?

We currently use STIC as a supplement, but all the standard views are obtianed in 2D and capture loops for hard copy. As we learn more about STIC technology and capabilities, I image the trend will move toward automated STIC views as the standard of care.
The general concensus in our department is the same, that STIC views will eventually become the standard of care. Meanwhile the question arises of which, between STIC and conventional heart views, will be faster and more reproducible to obtain. Regardless of the time to obtain the images, we feel that there will need to be a period of adjustment where the physicians/sonographers will learn to "trust" the STIC technology over traditional heart views.
Because of the technical difficulties in obtaining STIC volumes I think that it is equally as important to talk about incorporating 3D volumes into our fetal heart routines. The issue of the fetus holding still for 10 seconds is so limiting with STIC. However, when a good STIC volume is obtained the images and diagnostic information is incredible with the addition of 4D. 3D fetal heart volumes however are much easier to obtain and can be manipulated to obtain views that we can not get without volume imaging. 1 nice volume can show you most of the AIUM views on 1 screen using TUI. I don't think it matters how we obtain the standardized planes, whether it be 2D, 3D or STIC, just that we do it.
