Every ultrasound specialty. One professional network.

There are many requirements for sonography school, such as
having a good GPA, previous courses completed and a satisfactory
background check.

The following are the top 10 qualities and abilities of a great ultrasound and sonography professional:

  1. Able to comprehend and interpret written material without assistance
  2. Able to follow written instructions and think critically without assistance
  3. Able to interact and verbally communicate with others calmly and rationally
  4. Able to learn and function in a variety of academic and workplace environments
  5. Able to accurately perform the sequential sonography examination steps unassisted
  6. Able to communicate effectively with physicians, staff and patients
  7. Able to display emotional stability, maturity, judgment and empathy for others
  8. Have knowledge of basic grammar, spelling and writing skills
  9. Have normal or corrected vision, hearing and tactile sensitivity
  10. Have physical and mental stamina endurance.
Many of these qualities may sound obvious for a student getting their
sonography degree, such as the ability to interact with others and to
learn in a variety of settings. Physical and mental endurance might not
seem so obvious to anyone thinking about getting a sonography degree,
though. But the fact is that you must be able to routinely lift as much
as 150 pounds, manage a 200 pound patient without assistance, help
patients get on and off examination tables, and perform movements such
as pushing, pulling, kneeling and squatting.

Thanks Neil for elaborate illustration. Hadrly I can add a word. A sonographer or Sonologist must love this profession & get some interest in diagnosing & helping the patients. Otherwise with this enduring repetitive tasks he will be bored down. And he must not forget his own well being eg postures, a good work station ,chances of repititive injuries, physiotherapy etc
I must add one more....the sonographer must have some sort of faith or spirituality. This is not to be a religious lecture but after many years of imaging, I find one must have faith to deal with some of the things we see. When we meet the habitual aborter, malformed fetus, or cancer we must reach into ourselves to find peace and believe that there is a reason for this sadness. If not, it becomes quite difficult to deal with the sadness and tragedy we come across. IMHO.
I agree with susan " .the sonographer must have some sort of faith or spirituality.". A sonographer must believe in himself and the work he does.sometime we come across certain scenario where our research plays an important role and whole treatment depends on that....
