"In my practice and experience of watching scanning methods in about 75 countries including advance as well as developing countries; 15cm is cut off value and the best method having 88% accuracy is translabial scan--no shaow ,no hazzard. It is better…"

"Transabdominal ultrasound measurement of the cervical length may suffice on regular patients; even when it is not so accurate in many cases, due to technical considerations. In high risk patients and whenever a treatment option have to be decided it…"

Gabriela Pedigo replied to Bill Goodnight's discussion Cervical length screen in population in the group Obstetric Ultrasound Community
"Typically if a woman is low risk, the cervix is observed and measured transabdominally between 18-20 weeks. Although if the cervix is obscured by shadowing I would definately check vaginally."

Bill Goodnight replied to Bill Goodnight's discussion Fetal MRI use in practice for US detected anomalies in the group Obstetric Ultrasound Community
"Yep, sorry, should be missed at US. The debate continues in our department. I think MRI may be useful in ambiguous cases of CNS anomalies when it may change the patients' plans for the pregnancy - that is when it may make a difference in…"

Cervical length screen in population

I noted an interesting paper in this month's American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology by Cahill, et al addressing the question of transvaginal ultrasound cervical length measurements at 18-20 weeks (at time of the US standard anatomy US) for all patients. Fonseca demonstrated in 2007 (NEJM) that vaginal progesterone given to women with asymptomatic shortened cervix (<15mm) results in lower rates of preterm birth. When this paper came out, the obvious question was, 'is it really worth…See More

Fetal MRI use in practice for US detected anomalies

Good morning. Quick poll for the group: How often and for what indications does your practice order fetal MRI when a CNS anomaly is noted on US? We are in the middle of this debate at our institution including the costs and benefits for adding MRI. In general if we have a clearly identified anomaly and the remainder of the anatomy is defined, we will rarely add MRI. If visualization is difficult then we may add MRI. This is based on literature reports suggesting that fetal MRI may detect sublte…See More

"The Society for Maternal Fetal Medicine has written suggestions for how 76811 should be used (see SMFM web site www.smfm.org). The main points that differentiate 76811 from 76805 include (from SMFM white paper): a) CPT 76811 is not intended to be…"
