"I agree with Salavatore, we look at the pancreas, liver, gb, rt.kidney, and ducts when ruq is ordered. I was trained that you must assess the echogenicity of the liver compared to the rt. kidney."

RUQ sonography

What does everyone include on a RUQ only abdominal ultrasound? We are receiving more requests for this by our MD's. I know some places do liver, gb and ducts, while others do liver, gb, ducts, rt kidney and pancreas.

BILLING AND DOCTORS REQUISITIONS

We are an AIUM accredited facility and follow the AIUM renal protocols which require you to evaluate the bladder as well as the kidneys. My question is, how do other facilities deal with the billing. Some doctors will send a requisition that says "renal" and we have been calling them and making them send us a new req that says bladder too. Can you bill for a bladder and/or Doppler if the MD req has just "renal" on it since it is the AIUM protocol to include bladder or do you have to have orders…See More

"My facility includes the bladder for a retroperitoneal ultrasound. If the MD wants a PVR or renal Doppler, we require the script to specifically state such, or we have to call the office."

Renal billing

We are an AIUM accredited facility and follow the renal protocol which includes evaluating the bladder.  We often receive requisitions from the ordering MD's that say "renal ultrasound" .  We have been calling the offices back and having them send us a new req that has bladder (and Doppler) on it.  My question is, do we have to do this?  Can you bill for the bladder and/or Doppler if the MD order says "renal ultrasound"? Any input is appreciated!See More
