"No need for FNAC. -Regenerative nodule: develops in a cirrhotic liver. The patient does not have any underlying liver disease, thus least likely that she develops regenerative nodules. -NRH (nodular regenerative hyperplasia) is usually diffuse small…"

Contrast Enhanced Ultrasound in Pregnancy 2

For those who looked at the movie, here are the findings. First of all, the right side image is a low MI, fundamental gray scale, to monitor where we are imaging, the left side image is the contrast mode. This is a sagital view of left lobe of the liver. The lesion is occupying the half top of the liver (at the surface). As you can see in the movie, the lesion is very hypervascular in the arterial phase; it is much brighter than other part of the liver, (lesion near surface, liver is beneath).…See More

Contrast ultrasound in Pregnancy

What would you do if this is your patient, you or your family? Here is a patient I just had: 37 yo lady at 27 weeks of pregnancy, who had abdominal pain, had an ultrasound, found to have a hyperascular mass in the left hepatic lobe (about 4cm in diameter, surface of left lobe). Healthy woman without underlying liver disease or malignancy, likely a benign liver tumor. Differential diagnosis is focal nodlar hyperpaia (FNH) or hepatic adenoma (it is not a hemangioma as the lesion contains a lot of…See More

"Thanks Doctor Kono .I think CEUS should have edge over CECT, though non approval from FDA is a matter of concern. In many countries CEUS is done to exclude HCC routinely. And we should also know that FNAC has a big role to play. Even if CEUS…"

The role of contrast enhanced ultrasound in HCC surveillance

I am in New Orleans right now, attending DDW (digestive disease week) meeting. For those who are not familiar with HCC (hepatocellular carcinoma) surveillance/diagnosis recommendation from AASLD (Americal Society for the Study of Liver Disease): patients who are at risk of developing HCC are recommended to have ultrasound every 6months to detect HCC. If there is any lesion detected, contrast study will be performed.  If one (when the lesion >2cm) or two ( 1 to 2cm) contrast studies show…See More

Welcome to Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Community

Hi all,I am a new AIUM Communications Representative fot the Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound Community! I am not really good at "twitter" or "facebook", never blogged...but I will try my best in order to facilitate our conversation on Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound. We are a bit behind on clinical use of contrast agent for ultrasound compared to other countries. But as you know, SonoVue trial is on-going now in the US, and hopefully we can get FDA approval for radiology application soon.Any comment,…See More
